Solar Simplicity from the Energy Experts

GVEC Representative installing a solar panel on a beautiful home!

Lower electric bills, an investment in the future, and a great deal…these are all reasons for installing a solar panel system from GVEC Home. Just as importantly, we make it easy from start to finish.

Lower Electric Bills: Our customers save an average of $40-$60 a month with a 4kW system, which produces about 500 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per month. That's about a third of the 1,500 kWh consumed monthly by the typical home in the GVEC service area. Production is dependent upon various factors.

Installation: Our expert Member Services Advisors will configure a system to maximize production of electricity and then make sure the job is done right, from start to finish. The installers we use are factory-trained and certified.

Price: Ask us about resources to help with the initial cost.

  • GVEC members are eligible for an additional Energy Efficiency Rebate of $0.75/watt, up to $3000 total.
  • A federal tax credit of 30 percent is also available through December 31, 2019 for existing homes, new construction on principal residences and second homes. Read more at www.energystar.gov.

Durable and warrantied. Our panels are weather resistant and long lasting, designed to stand up to the Texas weather with minimal maintenance. Many of our systems offer a 25-year power output warranty and all include a 10-year installation warranty in addition to manufacturer warranties.

How do solar panels work?+

PV (Photovoltaic) cells in solar panels are made of layers of semiconductor material that convert sunlight into DC (direct current) electricity. An inverter converts the DC power into AC (alternating current) power, which can be used by your home. The more sunlight solar panels receive, the more electricity they can produce.

Can solar panels produce all of a home's electricity?+

The typical system isn't large enough to power an entire home, but it certainly will help reduce monthly electric bills by supplementing a home's energy needs. On the average, GVEC members save $40-$60 a month with a 4 kW system, which can produce approximately 500 kWh (kilowatt-hours) per month. That's about a third of the 1,500 kWh consumed monthly by the typical home in the GVEC service area.

What happens to excess energy that's not used?+

Solar energy must be used as it is produced. GVEC members can sell back excess energy to GVEC at the current wholesale power rate as specified in GVEC's Renewable Generating Tariff. An Interconnection Agreement is required, which sets the terms and conditions for properly and safely connecting a solar PV system to the electric grid.

What happens during a power outage?+

Solar systems are shut down automatically to prevent backfeeding into de-energized utility lines. It's a safety precaution to keep linemen safe as they work to restore power.

Are solar systems durable?+

A system from GVEC Home is a quality product. Our solar panels are very durable, hail resistant, and generally just need hosing off to keep clean. Our systems also have a 25-year power output warranty and a 10-year installation warranty in addition to manufacturer warranties.

Is there anything I should know about installation?+

Installation practices vary and can affect the durability and longevity of your system. GVEC takes the extra step of running all wires in conduits to protect them from the elements as well as critters like squirrels and rats. We also mount panels on a rack system, rather than nail directly into the roof.

What is the buying process like?+

GVEC Home is there for you from start to finish to make the buying and installation process as easy as possible. Once you call for an appointment, a GVEC Member Services Advisor will visit your home or business to do a site evaluation, free of charge. This is so we can customize a system to ensure you'll receive maximum sunshine for maximum electricity production.

We'll look at things like the slope, direction and condition of your roof and determine the amount of sun or shade it receives. If your roof doesn't offer the ideal situation, we can ground-mount or pole-mount panels, or even put them on the roof of another structure such as a pool house.

We'll also check your electric service, explain the technical requirements of connecting to the electric grid, and help you determine if a solar system would be a good investment for your situation.

Once we have a design and quote, we'll set up an appointment to review the information with you. If you decide to purchase a system, we'll take care of everything else: permits, homeowner association approvals, and installation. Once we have the equipment, installation typically takes one day.
